The Berlin University Alliance (BUA) is an alliance of Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin and Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Together, they are pursuing the goal of creating and shaping an integrated research space in Berlin. This alliance aims to establish Berlin as a leading international science location. All workshops and events offered by the Graduate Studies Support Program are funded by the BUA and therefore free of charge.

Participation

Doctoral researchers (all disciplines) of the Berlin University Alliance.

Before booking a workshop, please make sure that you can attend for the entire duration. Please check our terms and conditions.

Objectives

In this session, we have a closer look on authorship. We discuss who counts as an author and what are challenges when there is joint authorship. Thus, the session aims to give you an idea of your rights concerning authorship and what to do when conflicts about authorship arise.

Besides some basic information on the topic, we will mainly focus on cases. Participants are invited to bring your own cases which will be discussed confidentially using the method of collegial consultation.

To make the most out of this event, it is important that a safe and transparent atmosphere is created. We ask that you maintain discretion about the topics discussed and to attend the online meeting in an appropriate environment, preferably at a place where you will not be disturbed. If you happen to be in a room where other people are present, make sure to use headphones to maintain confidentiality. Furthermore, we ask you to make sure that your internet connection is stable, so that you can turn on your video and participate actively. As sensitive topics might be discussed, it creates a more trusting environment, if everybody agrees to show their faces.

For workshops held online, participation is allowed under the following conditions: a working camera that is turned on and a microphone to allow active participation in discussions and group work. Headphones must also be used to protect other participants from office eavesdroppers. In this context, we would also like to refer to the rules for digital courses at Freie Universität Berlin (Code of Conduct).
