The Berlin University Alliance (BUA) is an alliance of Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin and Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Together, they are pursuing the goal of creating and shaping an integrated research space in Berlin. This alliance aims to establish Berlin as a leading international science location. All workshops and events offered by the Graduate Studies Support Program are funded by the BUA and therefore free of charge.

- To navigate the peer review and the broader publication process
- To learn what editors and reviewers expect from journal articles and grant proposals
- To deal with feedback and criticism in different cultures
Content
- Introduction to scholarly publishing
- How to select a target journal
- The peer review system: submitting, revising, and resubmitting
- Skills needed to master the peer review process
- How to effectively communicate with editors and reviewers
- Criteria checked by editors and reviewers for journal articles grant proposals
- Giving and receiving feedback and criticism in Germany and across other cultures
- Copyright and licenses
- Ethical issues in publishing (e.g. predatory publishing, authorship disputes, plagiarism)
- Artificial Intelligence and scholarly publishing
In Advance
Participants can draft a cover letter for their next article. Therefore, before the workshop participants are asked to prepare the (preliminary) title of their next article.

For workshops held online, participation is allowed under the following conditions: a working camera that is turned on and a microphone to allow active participation in discussions and group work. Headphones must also be used to protect other participants from office eavesdroppers.
