The Berlin University Alliance (BUA) is an alliance of Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin and Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Together, they are pursuing the goal of creating and shaping an integrated research space in Berlin. This alliance aims to establish Berlin as a leading international science location. All workshops and events offered by the Graduate Studies Support Program are funded by the BUA and therefore free of charge.

 

Participation

Doctoral researchers (all disciplines) of the Berlin University Alliance in the early stages of their doctoral studies.

Please note that all participants for Research Integrity workshops will first be placed on a waiting list. You will shortly receive a confirmation message if places are available.

 

Objectives

What is good scientific practice? The introductory workshop will cover basic elements of good scientific practice and research integrity and help participants avoid questionable practices and misconduct.

 

Content

The workshop is based on the Guidelines for Good Research Practice of the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) and the Statute for Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice (GWP-Satzung) of Freie Universität Berlin.

The workshop covers:

  • Historical introduction and definition of good research practice
  • Overview of relevant regulations, statutes and procedures (with an ombudsperson of Freie Universität Berlin)
  • Rights and responsibilities regarding doctoral supervision; supervision agreements
  • Support services at Freie Universität Berlin and the Berlin University Alliance
  • Documentation, plagiarism and authorship
  • Data management, storage and transfer

 

Case studies will be analyzed and discussed and tasks assigned for group work. Participants will receive comprehensive information after the workshop.

For workshops held online, participation is allowed under the following conditions: a working camera that is turned on and a microphone to allow active participation in discussions and group work. Headphones must also be used to protect other participants from office eavesdroppers. Postdocs are welcome to participate if spots are available.
Doctoral researchers from Universität Potsdam are welcome to participate.
