The Berlin University Alliance (BUA) is an alliance of Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin and Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Together, they are pursuing the goal of creating and shaping an integrated research space in Berlin. This alliance aims to establish Berlin as a leading international science location. All workshops and events offered by the Graduate Studies Support Program are funded by the BUA and therefore free of charge.
Participation
Doctoral researchers (all disciplines) of the Berlin University Alliance. Speakers and presenters of all levels of experience are welcome. Just bring an attitude of open curiosity and a willingness to try something new, and you might be surprised by what is possible.
Before booking a workshop, please make sure that you can attend for the entire duration. Please check our terms and conditions.
Objectives
Whether we’re speaking in person with a group or in the online environment, confidence matters. In this workshop we define confidence as the ability to relax and be ourselves when we speak. Presenting isn’t viewed as a performance, a way of ‘acting’ a professional role, but as an opportunity to be authentic, connect with others, and share something that matters. We forget about the polish, gloss, and bullet-proof perfectionism, and relax into being natural, responsive, and engaged. It’s a more grounded place to be. And when you can stand on the firm ground of inner confidence, you’ll be clearer and more persuasive, you’ll enjoy yourself more – and you’ll get your scientific message across with more impact.
Content
This is a highly interactive online workshop. You’ll be engaged in discussion, individual and group exercises, and mini-presentations. Expect to …
• strengthen your core confidence
• develop your professional presence
• find a more natural voice
• connect more authentically with your listeners
• communicate your message more effectively
• make your scientific contribution and inspire people
Please note
You will need …
- a quiet, private space where you won’t be disturbed during the workshop (this also means turning off all app notifications, emails, and ‘pings’ of any kind)
- stable internet signal
- a laptop (tablets and phones are not adequate)
- earphones with microphone
