The Berlin University Alliance (BUA) is an alliance of Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin and Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Together, they are pursuing the goal of creating and shaping an integrated research space in Berlin. This alliance aims to establish Berlin as a leading international science location. All workshops and events offered by the Graduate Studies Support Program are funded by the BUA and therefore free of charge.
Participation
Doctoral researchers (all disciplines) and postdocs of the Berlin University Alliance.
Before booking a workshop, please make sure that you can attend for the entire duration. Please check our terms and conditions.
Objectives
Do you have difficulties getting certain things done? Do you sometimes wonder why you “run around the whole day” and still feel like you got nothing done? And do classic planning techniques scare you off? This program is for those of us who are unsatisfied with their use of time and are looking for an individual solution for that. While you will get to know some basic time and self management strategies, this is not about static “golden rules”. Instead, you will analyze your working habits and decide what you want to change. Together, we will empower each other to build our personal time competence. Following iterations will help you putting your new skills into a sustainable practice.
Content
An introductory full-day workshop will allow you to evaluate the way you plan your time and do your daily work. You will get to know alternative time and self management principles and will be supported to adjust them to your individual needs. This will help you to come up with solutions for your biggest time thieves. The first follow-up meeting is going to be one-on-one session with your trainer. It’s meant to discuss your progress and obstacles and is open to whatever you want to highlight. The timing for it is flexible and will be set during the first workshop. The second follow-up session will bring the seminar group back together to embrace everybody’s progress, learn from each other and finalize your individual time management concept (at least for now).
The heart of this program is to reserve enough time for each participant’s individual needs and challenges. Everyone will get four chances to discuss these with the group and/or the trainer.
