Content

Book an entire week to learn about self-management for the scientific writing process, discuss about procrastination and just write - alone and in tandems! Use the opportunity to establish writing groups.

The writing week consists of blocks in which content is covered as well as writing phases that are organized in tandems. The first, second, third and last days are accompanied by an expert who also offers individual consultations on these days. Thursday is dedicated exclusively to writing (alone, in tandem or in writing groups). Monday and Tuesday will be kicked-off with short workshops in the morning. The focus will be on sharpening your topic and self-organizing your writing (check the agenda below). After a lunch break and a brief exercise you will set a goal for the afternoon, be introduced to writing in tandems and reflect on your accomplishment. On Wednesday you will start the day with input on "writing phases and techniques of text revision" and continue your writing process. You can use the time to work on your individual writing project (e.g. your thesis or a journal article) during the week. Additionally time slots for individual counselling will be offered. On the fourth and fifth day you will continue writing in small groups by yourself. You will have the chance to try different forms of writing in tandem and to reflect on your writing with an expert on Friday.

We recommend you also check out the series of short workshops that adresses different aspects of academic writing, such as the process of defining and scoping the topic, the management of the writing process (time management, writer’s block, procrastination etc.), the use of creative writing techniques, the construction of the introduction and the conclusion, and challenges in collaborative writing.

Further Information

Doctoral programs calculate credit points based on the number of work units earned through workshop participation. Each work unit represents 45 minutes of workshop time, and 8 work units equal 0.5 credit points. For mini workshops (less than 8 work units), credits are calculated proportionally based on the work units. Please note: To be eligible for credit transfer, you must accumulate enough work units from short workshops.
For example, attending two 3-hour workshops results in 8 work units (2 workshops x 4 work units each), which equals 0.5 credits.
