Content

How can we integrate AI based tools in the research process in a safe and responsible way?
Since the release of ChatGPT, the academic world is concerned with how to deal with this new technology. Large Language and the newer multimodal models (LLM/LMM) promise greater efficiency, but have already led to some remarkable publication accidents (examples can be found at https://www.irit.fr/~Guillaume.Cabanac/problematic-paper-screener; https://www.academ-ai.info). In addition to AI-based text generation tools, there are also applications optimized for use in scientific research. These range from visualizations of the citation environment to more complex research assistants. After a short introduction, you will try out some of these tools yourself. Finally, we will discuss possible use cases and (ethical, legal and environmental) limitations of using AI tools in the research process.

Please Note

For workshops held online, participation is allowed under the following conditions: a working camera that is turned on and a microphone to allow active participation in discussions and group work. Headphones must also be used to protect other participants from office eavesdroppers. In this context, we would also like to refer to the rules for digital courses at Freie Universität Berlin (Code of Conduct).
